General FAQ
Why is this stuff being given away for free?
- Giving away free samples is a great way to win people over to your product / service. If you try their product and like it, you'll be much more likely to buy it next time, perhaps even look into other products they offer.
- Some sites rely on sponsorship. Those sites are hoping that while you're visiting you may take time to look at the offers they have available.
- Other sites are looking to gather broad demographic information to help them learn what products consumers are interested in.
Is there any way to speed up filling out these forms?
Glad you asked ;) Yes there is. A good one that has a free limited edition (and is without spyware, I'll get to that in a second) is Roboform. It will also help you remember any passwords you need and has a handy notes section in it. Fully password protected and secure.
Gator on the other hand (and no I won't give you a link to it) is (in my opinion) one of the worst kinds of software out there!
According to Tribune Media Services:
"Gator tracks the sites that users visit and forwards that data back to the company's servers. Gator sells the use of this information to advertisers who can purchase the opportunity to make ads pop up at certain moments, such as when specific words appear on a screen. It also lets companies launch a pop-up ad when users visit a competitor's Web site."
Not very nice huh!
If you have Gator installed already, there's software to remove this (and many other even worse types of spyware), Lavasoft Adaware is one of the more popular ones.
Why do most of the forms require my email?
Most just need that in case they need to verify your details, or tell you if you've won if it's a contest.
Some however do use your email to be able to send you more offers. If you're concerned, check their privacy policy or use an alternate email address. Be sure that it isn't a fake email address however! You'll most often need to verify that you requested a free sample or entered their contest. If it's a contest they'll also need to be able to tell you if you won. There are many free email providers online.
If I have a problem with something I ordered, what do I do?
- Contact the website giving away the freebie (I just list what the Internet offers, I don't give any of it away.) and let them know the problem (be polite, but detailed in your description. Often they will be all to happy to try to help you out.)
- Please let me know what happened, along with what they did to fix it. If they aren't being fair, I don't want other visitors to go through any hassles and I will remove them immediatly.
